Common questions.

The questions Dylan gets most often — gathered in one place. If yours isn’t here, send a message and he’ll get back to you.

Booking & Trip Details

What’s the deposit and cancellation policy?

A 50% prepayment locks in your date — the balance is due the day of the trip in cash, check, or Venmo (credit cards add a 5% processing fee). Cancel more than 14 days out and the prepayment transfers to another date within the year; inside 14 days the full rate is due. Trips cancelled for weather or mechanical failure are fully refunded — weather calls are at the captain’s discretion. Trip insurance is highly recommended.

How many people can fit on one boat?

2 guests and the guide.

Can we keep fish?

Yes! We don’t encourage keeping limits by any means, but make sure to mention it while booking so we bring extra ice, bags, etc. for you to take some fish home.

What to Bring & What’s Provided

Do I need to bring my own gear?

All gear is included. However, you’re welcome to bring your own.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes, a current Texas Saltwater fishing license is required by the state. You can purchase at tpwd.texas.gov.

Do I need to bring a lunch?

Yes, for a full day. The boat will have plenty of ice and water and room for you to bring anything else you may want on the water.

Do you provide lodging?

I don’t, but I have several recommendations — check the lodging tab.

Weather & Conditions

When is the best time to fly fish for redfish?

When you can go! But typically March–November are the best months. December–February can be weather dependent — waiting to fish in between fronts.

What do you do if it’s too windy?

We can usually find protection and get the job done up to about 30 mph. If gusts become greater than that, we’ll reschedule to another day at no charge.

Experience & Style

Do I need any fly fishing experience?

No experience necessary. Although I wouldn’t recommend showing up without a couple of casting lessons under your belt.

Can I use a spinning rod or baitcaster?

Certainly! I don’t mind which you prefer — my program doesn’t change. It’s still shallow-water sight casting.
