Booking & deposits
A 50% prepayment is required on all trips to confirm your date. The remaining balance is paid in cash, check, or Venmo to your guide on the day of the trip. If you’d like to charge your trip to a credit card, a 5% processing fee is added to the charge.
Cancellation by you
Plans change. Here’s how it works:
More than 14 days out: the prepayment isn’t refunded, but it transfers to a future date within the year.
Within 14 days of the trip: full payment is due.
Cancellation by us — weather
If your trip is cancelled due to weather or mechanical failure, your prepayment is refunded in full. Weather cancellations are at the captain’s discretion.
We fish in all weather conditions, rain or shine, year-round. If you’re concerned about the weather, please contact us at least 24 hours before your trip.
Cancellation by us — illness or emergency
If we have to cancel a trip due to illness, mechanical failure, or family emergency, you’ll get the first option to reschedule, or a full refund of your prepayment. This is rare, and we’ll do everything possible to find a guide of equal experience if rescheduling isn’t possible.
Trip insurance
We highly recommend obtaining trip insurance. For a very small cost, your trip fees are covered no matter what happens — you can apply through Travel Guard.
What’s included
All trips are all-inclusive: guide, the boat (Hell’s Bay Waterman skiff, or a partner boat on group days), all fly rods and reels (Sage Salt HD 7–8wt and heavier setups when relevant), floating and intermediate lines, custom-tied flies, leaders, tippet, ice, and bottled water.
What you bring
Polarized sunglasses (required for sight casting — Bajío or equivalent), a valid Texas saltwater fishing license, hat, reef-safe sunscreen, non-marking boat shoes (no flip-flops), and a light rain shell if the forecast looks moody. Lunch and snacks on Full Day trips.
Gratuity
Gratuity isn’t included in the trip price. If you had a great day, 15–20% is the industry standard for fly fishing guides on the Texas coast. Cash or app-based tips are both fine.
Catch policy
DM Fly Fishing is a catch-and-release operation. We follow all Texas Parks & Wildlife regulations for size and bag limits, but our preference is photo, measure, release — especially on bull reds and breeding-class trout. Healthy fishery, repeat clients.
Children & group safety
Anglers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. All passengers on the boat must wear or have access to a Coast Guard–approved PFD. Alcohol is allowed in moderation; intoxication that creates an unsafe boat environment may end the trip without refund.
Liability
By booking a trip, you acknowledge that saltwater fly fishing carries inherent risks — sun, wind, weather, water, casting injuries, slips on the boat, and similar. All anglers are responsible for their own safety and conduct on the boat. A short liability acknowledgment is sent with your booking confirmation and must be signed before launch.
