Rockport Area Fly Fishing
Jetties, channels, grass flats, sand flats, mangroves — Port A has it all. Bring the family, enjoy the beach, and we can pick you up on the island. Great options to fish close if your schedule is tight.
DM Fly Fishing poles these waters year-round — the same sight-casting game we run out of Rockport, on a slightly different stretch of coast. The fishery here is layered. On the inside, protected back lakes and grass flats along Mustang Island hold tailing redfish in shin-deep water: classic, heart-in-your-throat sight fishing.
Toward the pass, the Lydia Ann Channel and the Corpus Christi Bay shorelines add moving water and bait, which pulls bigger fish up onto the edges. When conditions line up, the jetties and the pass itself are worth a look for oversized bull reds and, in the warm months, shots at jack crevalle and the occasional tarpon rolling nearshore.
The bread and butter. Singles and small pods tailing on the flats, plus bigger fish staging near the pass.
Over grass and along drop-offs, best early on a clean, moving tide.
Willing eaters that tail like redfish and test a slow, accurate presentation.
A fun, technical target around structure for anglers who want a real challenge.
Port Aransas fishes all year. Spring through fall brings the best tailing action as warm water and good tides push fish shallow. Winter trades numbers for quality — lower, clearer water and calm mornings can mean picture-perfect shots at big, slow-cruising redfish. As with any flats fishing, tide and wind drive the day, which is why we plan each trip around the conditions rather than the clock.
Trips run from a poled skiff built for the shallows — 100% sight casting, no blind-fishing bait. Captain Dylan Mendoza handles the poling and the spotting; you handle the cast. All fly gear, flies, and water are included, and the boat works equally well for a seasoned fly angler chasing a personal best or someone stepping onto the bow for the first time.
Take a look at our guided trip options and rates, compare a half day against a full day, then send us your dates and we'll match you to the right tides. Fishing a different stretch? We also run Aransas Pass & the Lighthouse Lakes and the Upper Laguna Madre.
Good to know
We pick the ramp that fits the day’s tide and wind — often running from the Rockport–Fulton area or launching closer to Mustang Island. We’ll confirm the exact meeting spot and time when you book.
Redfish are the primary target on the fly, with speckled trout, black drum, and sheepshead all in play depending on season and conditions. Bigger bull reds and jack crevalle show near the pass in the warmer months.
Yes. The protected back lakes offer close, forgiving shots, and Dylan coaches casting and presentation on the bow. Beginners and experienced anglers both fish well here.
Roughly a thirty-minute run. It’s an easy add to a Rockport-based trip, which is why we treat the whole Mustang Island stretch as home water.
No. All fly rods, reels, flies, and water are provided. You’re welcome to bring your own setup if you’d prefer to fish it.
