The Dog Days of Summer

With recent stagnant, low tides and limited daily water movement, tidal dynamics are shaping redfish activity across the Rockport area. The fishing is still great! However, knowing where to spend your time is vital! Redfish are currently concentrated in select habitats, with much of the shallow flats seeing sparse action. Simply put, now is the time it separates the men from the boys. There's a lot of water out there and you're limited on time until the water temps rise too high and push all the fish down deep. These low tide, dog days still have its attractions. What you will expect is consistency; the weather and tide will be very predictable, and so will the fish. They have no place to go with the low tide, so just simply following the bait will keep you on the fish. That being said, the fish will be stacked in very select areas so your shots at fish will be very consistent. Don't sleep on this time of year. Besides the fall, this time of year is usually when we have the most opportunities at oversized redfish and trout that make an appearance on the flats!

If you want a more in depth understanding of it all, subscribe to my newsletter. I will be posting a break down of what I’ve been seeing out there, and why they do what they do. It’s predictable, so having a good understanding on when, where, why they do these things will help you with staying on fishing consistently. Even throughout the dog days of summer when most are struggling to find fish or stay on fish.
