Summer is here!

June has been an outstanding month for fly fishing Rockport, Texas! The tides have been ideal, giving us plenty of water to explore a variety of grass flats and structure-rich areas. While shrimp remain a staple on the menu for our local gamefish, we’ve recently seen a surge of baitfish—like finger mullet, pinfish, and perch—moving onto the flats to feed. This seasonal bait transition is driven by rising water temperatures, incoming tides, and the prevailing southeast winds, which together create the perfect habitat for herbivorous baitfish to thrive. As these baitfish gather in the shallows, our redfish and speckled trout become more active, feeding aggressively and making them easier to approach within casting range.

Summer is truly some of my favorite months to fly fish for redfish in Rockport and Port Aransas. With so much baitfish activity and ideal conditions, every outing offers the chance for exciting sight-casting and and ample amounts of opportunities at memorable catches.
